Dear Attorney General Bondi,
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, respectfully petition the U.S. Department of Justice to open a formal investigation into potential federal civil-rights violations committed by New York Attorney General Letitia James in her handling of matters involving Mr. Jason McGuire, his family, and the New York Families Foundation.
For more than three years, Attorney General James directed an extensive and punitive investigation into Mr. McGuire and his organization—an effort that brought the full weight of the State of New York upon a private citizen and faith-based ministry. This investigation, widely regarded as politically and ideologically motivated, culminated in 53 days of intermittent incarceration for Mr. McGuire and caused significant personal and institutional harm.
Attorney General James’ actions were driven by hostility toward Mr. McGuire’s Christian convictions and his public advocacy on matters of life, family, and religious liberty. Such conduct, if substantiated, constitutes an abuse of governmental power and a violation of federal civil-rights protections guaranteed under the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.
Accordingly, we respectfully request that the U.S. Department of Justice:
- Conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into Attorney General James’ conduct toward Mr. McGuire, his family, and the New York Families Foundation;
- Determine whether these actions amount to retaliation or discrimination based on religion or viewpoint; and
- Take appropriate corrective and disciplinary action as required by federal law.
We further note that Mr. Jason McGuire will personally hand-deliver the names of all signatories to this petition to your office at the Department of Justice.
